In 2011 Tahiti was hit with one of the biggest swells we’ve seen in recent years. The swell was so big that the Tahitian government issued a Code Red warning, banning the surrounding seas of boats and watercraft. What most people would have seen as a reason to stay as far away from the water as possible, others, including some of the worlds best big wave surfers, saw as a blessing from the gods.
Laurie Towner was the first to try his luck in these conditions, and while he took a few mean wipeouts, he definitely deserves an award for having the biggest balls.
