Swell Of The Decade: Nate Fletcher Catches A Monster, Wave Almost Sinks Onlooking Boat

In 2011 Tahiti was hit with one of the biggest swells we’ve seen in recent years. The swell was so big that the Tahitian government issued a Code Red warning, banning the surrounding seas of boats and watercraft. What most people would have seen as a reason to stay as far away from the water as possible, others, including some of the worlds best big wave surfers, saw as a blessing from the gods.

In what is one of the most talked about sessions of the decade, Nathan Fletcher ended catching the wave of the day. The wave was so big that one of the boats in the lineup, usually sitting at a safe distance from the wave, came close to being drowned. Check out the carnage in the following video.
