The Real Surfers Of Point Break: Albee Layer

Albee Layer is a born and bred Hawaiian and one of the best all round surfers in the world, he can punt (landing one of the first ever 720’s, here), he throws serious buckets with a solid rail game, he’s also highly impressive and one of the best in the line up when the swell hits XXL.

We’ve watched Albee from GromDays until now, he’s the underdog that keeps on achieving. Albee’s section entry in Taylor Steele’s Innersection 2 won him a handsome prize purse of $100K for his back pocket. He’s had multiple Billabong ‘Ride of the year’ entries and consistently pushes the boundaries with his web series ‘The Habitat’. Albee also managed to direct, produce and star in one of best surf movies of 2015 Attractive Distractions, on the back of all of this he placed second at Pe’ahi Challenge recently at Jaws where the waves hit 30ft+, a career defining moment for the 24 year old.

Albee is now about to feature in the new Hollywood remake of Point Break stunt doubling as Johnny Utah.

‘It’s kind of a weird concept to me when Hollywood meets surfing. I’m not a big fan most of the time. But the whole crew for the Point Break thing was really cool, and we basically ended up getting paid to get barreled at Teahupoo, so we really can’t complain [laughs]. The waves were actually so good the whole time we were there. It was insane.’ Albee told Surfer
