Rogue Wave Wipes Out Spectators At Mavericks Surf Contest

Mavericks is well known as one of the world’s heaviest waves, so when the Titans of Mavericks surf contest rolls around, hundreds of people flock to the shore of Mavericks beach to catch the action.

And although the wave happens to break half-a-mile from the beach, in 2010 a set of rogue waves washed on shore, sweeping up scaffolding and dozens of spectators. Most escaped with minor injuries but three people were hospitalised with broken bones. Watch it take place above.
