Live From The Greenroom – Goons Of Doom

There’s no denying the intrinsic link that exists between Surfing and Music… The rhythm and flow it takes to play an instrument seems to translate perfectly to the coordination and style it takes to ride a wave. This is basis of our new segment, Live From The Greenroom – a chance for us to hero those musical acts that are firmly grounded in the discourse of surf. Those multi-talented individuals whose surfing shapes their music and whose music shapes their surfing… Welcome to Episode 2: The Goons Of Doom.

We’d categorize The Goons’ music as something between Surf Rock and Horror Punk. Formed in 2004 in Narrabeen, NSW, the band revolves around front-man Ozzie Wright (who also surfs for Volcom). Other band members include “Cutthroat Cowboy” (Ryan Cowell), “Killa Whale” (Timothy Cooney), “Ray of Sunshine” (Tuifao Lalotoa) and “Vaughn Dead” (Adam Blakey).

They’re the kind of band that was born before any of its members mastered their instruments. The result – a raw, honest sound that is so obviously grounded in the wild style of surfing that these lads love.

Check out a live rendition of their song Anti Bad Vibe Shield. We hope you enjoy it.
